Wellness is everyone’s responsibility. Individuals, families, schools, groups, organizations, business and all levels of government have a role to play. Some partners will plan and deliver programs, while others will focus on the development of strategies and policies. To make a difference, we must combine our efforts and all work together to Go Healthy!
The Provincial Wellness Advisory Council
provided the leadership for the development of the Provincial Wellness Plan. The Wellness Council will continue to provide advice and guidance on the wellness priorities to government through the Minister of Health and Community Services.
The four Regional Health Authorities - Eastern Health, Central Health, Western Health, and Labrador-Grenfell Health - offer a full range of health services including community and public health. Through their health promotion divisions the Regional Health Authorities work with individuals, groups and communities to promote health and prevent illness.
The six Regional Wellness Coalitions operate within the Regional Health Authorities. The coalitions provide opportunities for people to become involved in community action for wellness.
Schools throughout the province are creating school environments that support healthy living for children and youth. The initial focus of the Healthy Students Healthy Schools Initiative
is on healthy eating, active living and living smoke-free.
The Alliance for the Control of Tobacco in consultation with its partners, provides leadership on the implementation of the Provincial Tobacco Reduction Strategy.
